Mehsana, Gujarat: McCain Foods India, through its flagship community initiative Project Shakti, continues to empower rural women with financial literacy, entrepreneurial skills, and sustainable livelihood opportunities. Since 2018, the initiative has been implemented in partnership with the Cohesion Foundation Trust, impacting over 1,500 women. Currently, the initiative is active in 20 villages across Mehsana and Kadi blocks in Gujarat.

As part of its Women’s Day celebrations, McCain India celebrated the resilience, determination, and achievements of 600 women entrepreneurs at Aambaliyasan Village, Umiyawadi, in the presence of key district stakeholders. The event witnessed McCain’s ongoing commitment to inclusive growth and sustainable development.

A key highlight was the first visit of Mr. Mainak Dhar, Managing Director, McCain India, to Aambaliyasan Village, reflecting the company’s deep engagement with grassroots initiatives. Interacting with Shakti entrepreneurs, he gained firsthand insights into their journeys, challenges, and aspirations. His presence reinforced McCain’s belief in fostering long-term partnerships that drive meaningful change.

Speaking about Project Shakti, Mr. Mainak Dhar shared, “What I appreciate most about Project Shakti is that it goes beyond financial support; it creates a space where women can voice their dreams, challenges, and aspirations. The initiative also focuses on the next generation by providing computer training and skill development for children. Also, we believe that women’s achievements should be celebrated every day. Real change happens when women have the confidence to make their own choices. Many women in rural areas have the skills and drive to succeed but often lack access to the right resources and networks. By providing financial literacy, vocational training, and entrepreneurial support, we help them take control of their lives, make informed decisions, and break the cycle of economic dependence.”

Women supported by Project Shakti have successfully established small-scale businesses in sectors like food processing, handicrafts, and local retail, turning their skills into sustainable livelihoods. Beyond financial independence, the initiative has instilled confidence, leadership skills, and decision-making abilities, enabling them to create a better future for themselves and their families.

McCain India firmly believes that empowered women build stronger communities. With this vision, the company is dedicated to expanding Project Shakti’s reach, introducing new skill development programs, and creating greater economic opportunities for rural women.

The Women’s Day event was not just a celebration but it was a reaffirmation of McCain India’s commitment to bringing real, lasting change at the grassroots level. By equipping women with the right skills and resources, McCain India is helping drive social and economic transformation, ensuring that communities thrive for generations to come.
